The Gathering - Anne Enright Basically I found this ho-hum most of the way through. I did enjoy the negative charge and the picture of the marriage. I also liked how the narrator shot completely off-kilter near the end – that rang true to me. The book was worthwhile and well written, but for all the emotional and psychological insight the end of the book afforded, I didn’t think it was a great read.

It also really bothered me that the author never used the word "whom."
